Meet a Heritage Hero: Raven Boudreau
Meet Raven Boudreau, one of our Heritage Heroes. Raven is a graduate of the Marine Engineering program at the Nautical Institute at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) in Port Hawkesbury and recently completed her Marine Engineering Technology Advanced Diploma.
Raven answered some of our Heritage Heroes questions…
ON HER VOLUNTEER EFFORTS:
During my post-secondary schooling I would volunteer to help out the faculty during different open-house events. Throughout the years, I participated in the Rick Mercer report on the freefall lifeboat and in an abandon ship drill. I also went to Dartmouth to an art gallery opening fundraiser to represent the school and I was a mentor-spokesperson for Techsploration.
ON HER GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:
“My proudest moment was getting accepted to go to China to pick up a vessel for its maiden voyage to the Great Lakes.”
ON HAVING A HERITAGE RESP:
“The RESP made my post-secondary schooling easier by relieving the stress and financial burden. Due to this, I didn’t have to get a job and was able to focus more on my studies. It has helped with lowering my student loan debt. I would recommend parents opening an RESP because they wouldn’t be expected to pay out as much money at once, causing less financial stress, especially if there are other children at home.”
Thanks to Raven for her participation and for being one of our Heritage Heroes. We look forward to seeing where her future endeavours take her!
