Meet a Heritage Hero: Alec Martin
Meet Alec, one of our Heritage Heroes. Alec graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce and concentration in Accounting and Economics. Shortly after graduating, he landed a job with Ernst & Young as a Senior Staff Accountant and a few years later, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to pursue a role in their Mergers & Acquisitions department as a Manager of Transactions.
Alec answered some of our Heritage Heroes questions…
ON VOLUNTEERING IN HIS COMMUNITY:
“I participate in a variety of Ernst & Young’s community volunteer efforts. My favorite involves doing work with the Charles River Conservancy here in Boston.”
ON HIS MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTORS:
“Andrew Morgan is a Senior Manager in the EY Toronto practice. He showed me the value in building a community where you work and the power of sharing information. He instilled in me the value you get from training others to elevate the whole team.”
ON HAVING A HERITAGE RESP:
I was able to choose a fairly expensive program by Canadian standards. Queen’s Commerce tuition was nearly double the Arts and Science offerings. Knowing that the money had been saved in advance, meant that I could choose the program that I was interested in and had the highest career rewards without being limited by student loans or short term finances.
Thanks to Alec for his participation and for being one of our Heritage Heroes. We look forward to seeing where his future endeavours take him.
